FoodLabFat
The new way
to perform Quality Controls
of Edible Oils and Fats
FoodLabFat is a fast, user-friendly and reliable testing system for edible oils and fats that enables the determination of
- Free Fatty Acids (FFA)
- Peroxide Value (PV)
- concentration of Soaps
- Anisidine Value (AnV).
With its simplicity, FoodlabFat is ideal to be used during every production stage in food industry to monitor the quality of edible oils and fats in real time.
Therefore Innovative features and advantages make FoodlabFat widely used in quality control of worldwide food industries that involve fats and edible oils ingredient.
Furthemore, thanks to their accuracy and reliability, FoodLabFat have been already used in two studies realized by members of Hamburg University to carry out important researches regarding oils and fats.
System Overview
The system comprises:
- A thermostated analyzer based on photometric technology that uses solid-state emitters.
- A kit of reagents prepared by CDR research laboratories and supplied in bottles with a shelf life of one year.
- Pipettes with fixed calibration to ensure a correct collection of samples and an accurate dosing of reagents.
- User manual.
- Illustrated data sheets.
- DVD with filmed methods.
The system is supplied with a 3-year warranty.
FoodlabFat has been designed using the technological innovations and analytical principles implemented in FoodLab: CDR FoodLab Method

Features & Benefits
Fast
The technology developed by CDR enables to assess the variations in terms of:
- Anisidine Value (AnV) in 2 minutes
- Peroxide Value (PV) in 4 minutes
- Free Fatty Acids (FFA) in 1 minute
- Concentration of Soaps in 2 minutes
In edible oils and fats.
User-friendly
To run a test, it merely involves several simple steps:
- Add in exact amount of sample to the cuvette by using a pipette
- homogenize it
- initiate the test
- result is available in few minutes.
Results are printed by a built-in printer and thus users have a proper test report.
Unlike NIR and other photometric systems, it does not require complex calibration operations because it is supplied pre-calibrated. The measuring cells are controlled on start-up and calibration curves are pre-installed. Users can however customize calibration parameters with a few simple and quick operations.
The innovative CDR FoodLab Method eliminates the involvement of costly equipment or intense training for operators required to conduct complex chemical methods. At the end of test, there is no washing of containers, testing instrumentation or quartz cuvettes required.
Furthermore, instruction sheets and filmed method help user describing the detailed procedures.
Reliable
FoodlabFat guarantees maximum sensitivity, precision and reliability as it is based on a digital signal processing and to the photometric technology based on LED luminous sources. So it does not require regular maintenance operations as with standard photometers with tungsten filament lamps.
Furthermore, FoodlabFat can be aligned with reference standards and samples with known titration, and uses measuring and incubating cells thermostated at 37°C.
Connectivity
The two ports on the rear enable to connecte the analyzer to a computer. FoodLabFat can be connected to LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and the XML (Extensible Markup Language) protocol.
Guaranteed Quality
University studies carried out with FoodLabFat
FoodLabFat has been used to determine peroxide and anisidine values (AnV), in a study named “Stability of high oleic vegetable oils towards light exposure” conducted by Katharina D. Placke, Carola Biesemann, Jan Fritsche of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. This study will be presented during the 7th Euro Fed Lipid Congress: "Lipids, Fats and Oils: From Knowledge to Application" that held in Graz from 18th to 21st October 2009.
FoodLabFat for determination of p-Anisidine Value (AnV) was involved in the study "Oxidative stability of deep-frying oils" presented at 6th Euro Lipid Congress - Oils, Fats and Lipids in the 3rd Millennium: Challenges, Achievements and Perspectives (07–10 September 2008 Athens – Greece). The study was carried out by Katharina D. Placke, Jan Fritsche (Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Department Ökotrophologie Hamburg) and Kim K. Kleeberg (Dr. Kim Kleeberg Umweltanalytik Hamburg) to compare the oxidative stability of conventional sunflower oil (SF) with high-oleic sunflower oil (HOSF).
Correlation with ISO reference methods
The analytical principle implemented in CDR FoodLab Method has been assessed with several comparative studies during which it was compared with reference methods.
All the laboratories have provided positive feedback on the linearity of the system, the correlation with the reference method and the rapidity/user-friendliness of test procedures.
NEOTRON, a SINAL certified laboratory, carried out a series of comparative tests between CDR FoodLab Method and ISO methods for the determination of the Peroxide Value and Free Fatty Acids. All results match the analytical criteria for the above-mentioned parameters stated in reference methods.
SSOG (the laboratory of the experimental center for oils and fats) of Milan, which is a public body subject to the supervision of the Ministry of Productive Activities, performed several comparative tests on the analytical methods used for peroxides and assessed them as substantially compliant with the refence method.
Comparative tests between ISO 6885: 2006 classic method and CDR FOODLAB method have been carried out in a private lab to analyze p-Anisidine value (AnV). The two methods have let to consistent results.
