OxiTester
To perform Quality Control
of Vegetable Oils:
OxiTester Fast Simple Reliable
With OxiTester you can determine Free Fatty Acids (FFA), the peroxide value (PV) and polyphenols/Oil Stability Index (OSI) in vegetable oils using fast, simple and reliable methods
OxiTester is also able to measure K270 values and can therefore be used to identify the presence of rectified oil that may have been added to virgin olive oil.

Fast Simple Reliable
Fast
OxiTester enables to quickly assess the quality of both vegetable oils and fruits. The innovative testing method of OxiTester, which uses micro-samples of oil as is, enables to determine:
- The acidity value in 1 minute
- The peroxides value in 4 minutes
- The polyphenols/stability index (OSI) in 6 minutes
- The K270 value in 6 minutes
It is also possible to further reduce testing time by running test sessions on several samples, up to a maximum of 14, in order to be able to carry out 80 acidity tests, 70 peroxides tests, 30 polyphenols test and 70 K270 tests per hour.
Simple
- The system does not require specific training.
- No maintenance and calibration costs.
- Analysis can be run by unskilled operators because of the extraordinary easiness of use.
- Reagents are pre-filled in disposable cuvettes.
- Test can be carried out on micro-samples as is.
- The analyzer is supplied pre-calibrated.
Reliable
The analyzer is compliant with reference ISO/AOCS methods.
OxiTester guarantees maximum sensitivity, precision and reliability because it is based on solid state photometric technology, processes signals digitally, can be aligned with reference standards and samples with known titration, and uses measuring and incubating cells thermostated at 37°C.
OxiTester offers therefore a high level of sensitivity combined with optimum resolution, precision and testing repeatability.
Guaranteed Quality
Correlation with ISO reference methods
Several studies have compared the analytical capability of FoodLab, the testing method integrated in OxiTester, and reference methods in relation to the analysis of Free Fatty Acids (FFA), Peroxide Value (PV) and polyphenols/oil stability index (OSI). The laboratories involved in the studies have expressed a favorable opinion as regards to the linearity of the system, its correlation with the reference ISO/AOCS methods, and the rapidity and user-friendliness of its testing procedures.
NEOTRON laboratory, certified by SINAL, performed several comparative studies on FOODLAB and ISO methods, in relation to peroxide value and acidity testing, and determined that the results match the testing criteria, for the parameters involved, as defined in EEC Regulation no. 2568/91.
SSOG laboratory (Laboratorio della Stazione Sperimentale Oli e Grassi) of Milan, which is a public trading body subject to the control of the Ministry of Production Activities, performed a series of comparative studies on peroxides tests, confirming that the Oxitester method is substantially aligned with the specifications of EEC Regulation no. 2568/91. The system also achieved excellent results in the Ring Test on vegetable oils performed by Italian laboratories and organized by SSOG.
University studies carried out with OxiTester
Minerva S.A. and Asteriadis S.A., in collaboration with the University of Athens, also carried out a study, published in the Journal of AOAC International, on the method employed by OxiTester to measure the amount of polyphenols/oil stability index (OSI), validating and comparing this method with the official one used to measure the stability of oil, generally known as Rancimat method, American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) Cd 12b-92.
The OxiTester method appeared to offer a valid alternative to the Rancimat method and showed an adequate correlation on a wide number of virgin and extra-virgin olive oil samples. As compared to the Rancimat method, OxiTester offers shorter testing times, that is approximately 6 minutes as compared to the 12 hours of the Rancimat method.
