The acidity (FFA) of crude oil is a very important parameter in that it determines the quality of palm oil from the very initial production stages within the oil mill. At this stage, it is sometimes necessary to carry out tests on the oxidative status by determining the values of peroxide (PV), anisidine (AnV) and DOBI & carotene content. The application of PalmOilTester enables the determination of the actual quality of the oil in real time easily.
The above mentioned parameter along with the iodine value (IV) are also very important during the refinery stage, that is both during the acceptance of crude oil as well as monitoring the refinery stages and finished products.
The determination of DOBI & carotene content is essential because it enables evaluation of oils “refinability” and consequently determines their classifications. The DOBI is influenced by the degree of ripeness of the fruit and storage conditions. This test allows classification of different batches according to the qualitative parameters and thus determines the product shelf life.
The PalmOilTester method enables the determination of these critical parameters on oil as it is, without using a spectrophotometer or quartz cuvettes. In addition, the results of these two parameters, that are DOBI and carotene content, can be obtained in one operation within the same test.
PalmOilTester can also be used to determine the anisidine value (AnV) with a simple and reliable method. This test is used to assess the secondary oxidation of oil, which is mainly imputable to aldehydes and ketones, and is therefore able to tell the oxidation "history" of an oil.
The PalmOilTester method eliminates the usage of toxic reagents, dedicated instrumentation or skilled operator as it allows the determination of anisidine value in just 2 minutes using a method that is much simpler as compared to the official method.
